The two-year quest to select the site of a new $350 million stadium for the Arizona Cardinals ended August 29 when the Tourism and Sports Authority voted 7-1 in favor of the West Valley city of Glendale. Tempe, which has hosted the Cardinals since the team relocated to Arizona 14 years ago, thought it had a stadium deal locked up until the Federal Aviation Administration ruled that the site interfered with air traffic. East Valley neighbor Mesa assumed frontrunner status until opponents called a September referendum that was eventually defeated.
