'Get Smart About Credit 2009' set for October 15.
Position | Conference news |
As the economy and new legislation shape a new credit reality for young adults, the ABA Education Foundation is using the seventh annual Get Smart About Credit Day--celebrated Oct. 15 and throughout the month--to stress the fundamentals of wise credit use.
The Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009, effective February 2010, will require consumers under 21 to have a co-signer or prove they have the financial means to repay the loan.
The foundation will host Webinars to ensure that banker volunteers are confident in their ability to provide credit education. The online training sessions will cover steps for planning an event, tips on using the Get Smart About Credit resource kit, and how to contact schools and other groups. Participation is free, but registration is required.
Available sessions:
* Wednesday., September 9 at 3:30 p.m. (EDT)
* Thursday September 10 at 1 p.m. (EDT)
A banker who registers as a Get Smart About Credit participant will also receive a 15 percent discount on the Get Smart About Credit resource kit along with free materials on how to get started and promote an event, and classroom and post-lesson handouts. Registered banks will be recognized in ABA online and print publications.
For more information on Get Smart About Credit or to purchase a resource kit please call the ABA Education Foundation at 1-(800)-BANKERS or visit www. abaef.com.
