Garaventa-CTEC might be headquartered at Salt Lake City's base altitude of 4300 feet but its products touch the sky on a regular basis. The 25-year-old company designs, manufactures and installs ski lifts for ski resorts around the world.

Garaventa-CTEC is the U.S. subsidiary of Garaventa, a Swiss company -- its location in Utah allows it to handle most of the company's North American work. In addition, Garaventa-CTEC's ski lifts are also in use in Japan, China, Korea, South America and Eastern Europe. In Utah, the company's lifts are found at Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort, Snowbird and Alta.

Focusing almost exclusively on the ski industry, the company manufactures everything from large-cabin, reversible trains to detachable quads to fix-grip chair lifts. Its manufacturing plant in Salt Lake City provides the classic structural components such as towers...
