PositionReasons for the success of International Association of Defense Counsel as the oldest and most prestigious international association of attorneys - President's Page

WHY IS the International Association of Defense Counsel the oldest and most prestigious international association of attorneys representing corporations and insurers? There are many reasons, but two primary ones are our members and the IADC's Defense Counsel Journal (DCJ).

The DCJ continues to rank among the best journals of its type for presenting current, cutting-edge articles on points of interest to our membership as well as the defense and corporate counsel community in general. It is a forum for the publication of topical and scholarly writings on the law, its development and reform. It also offers insights on the practice of law, particularly from the viewpoint of the practitioner and litigator in the civil defense, corporate and insurance fields.

The IADC, as an invitation-only membership association of the best defense, corporate and insurance trial attorneys in the world provides a stimulating environment and a wealth of talent for the development of the ideas and articles that fill the pages of the DCJ. This year I have appointed a task force to focus on increasing the subscription list of the DCJ and to assist in placing it in all of the appellate court judges' offices in the country. While we have a broad subscription base already, the quality of this publication deserves the broadest coverage possible, and it is imperative that the judiciary receive a defense and corporate perspective on the important legal issues being addressed in every issue.

I would encourage every member to assist us in this regard by contacting your state defense association leadership and encourage your state association to pay for additional copies of the DCJ for their judiciary. This journal should be in every state research library and on the desk of all appellate judges in the country. We welcome any assistance or suggestions you might have in regard to the DCJ, its subscription or content.

I want to acknowledge two exceptional individuals who have jointly lead the DCJ through many of its years, and whose efforts have lead the DCJ to gain its reputation for quality and professionalism. Richard B. Allen, on staff at the IADC office in Chicago, has been the Managing Editor of the DCJ since 1987. Through his leadership, editorial skills and dedication to quality, the DCJ has continued to improve and succeed.

Richard L. Neumeier, an IADC member from Boston, is the Editor and Chair of the Board of Editors for the DCJ, a position he has held since 1992...
