General Communication Inc. was due to begin offering new broadband Internet to some rural households early this year via TERRA-Southwest, a project extending terrestrial broadband service to Bristol Bay and the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. Construction of the project was complete in October. In November, existing customers--including schools and health corporations--ere moved to the network. United Utilities Inc., a GCI subsidiary, led the TERRA-SW project.

"For the first time in history, we will be providing terrestrial broadband to 65 communities in Southwest Alaska, improving access to education, health care and public safety and creating new economic opportunities for residents and businesses," said Ron Duncan, GCI president and chief executive.
