There are several general texts on admiralty law: Erastus Cornelius Benedict et al., Benedict on Admiralty (7th ed. Rev. 1997); Grant Gilmore & Charles L. Black , Jr., Th e Law of Admiralty (2d ed. 1975); and Thomas J. Schoenbaum, The Law of Admiralty (4th ed. 2004).

One of the most valuable texts for any practitioner is Alex L. Parks & Edward V. Cattell , Jr . , Th e Law of Tug, Tow, and Pilotage (3rd ed. 1994). The book contains authorities on many subjects and should not be thought of as solely relating to tug and tow problems. It includes useful selections on damages. The foremost text on collision is John Wheeler Griffin, The American Law of Collision (1949).
