Much of this report will sound familiar to readers in the national security field--all they need to do is substitute "the United States" with "China."

China relies on imports from the United States, Japan and other nations for certain key devices, components and raw materials. There would be negative short-and long-term implications to the supply chain if China were cut off from them. Further, many Chinese companies place more emphasis on the bottom line when acquiring these materials rather than thinking of the greater national good.

For readers who have followed coverage of China's chokehold on rare earths and certain strategic minerals, this is a refreshing read.
