This is an engrossing story about a teen who is starting to hear voices, which triggers his diagnosis as a schizophrenic. The author has a long note at the back of the book about how closely he sought the advice of experienced psychiatrists when writing about Penn, which helps me to recommend the book since I don't know much myself about the disease. (I have checked with my own contacts who are psychiatrists about the details here.) What is bewildering is that Penn's hearing voices can also be interpreted as having extra sensitivity about other people's feelings. The voices he hears are from family and friends, who reveal to Penn the thoughts they are hiding. When Penn finds out that his uncle, now an alcoholic bum but...
