My Paramour

Or if you prefer, "mistress," never seems to get enough of my time or attention. You may question the wisdom of writing about such a relationship in a bar article that coincides with the 30^th anniversary of my marriage, but for the last 20 years or so we have been in an "open" relationship, of sorts. To U.S. Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story is attributed the following words: "The law is a jealous mistress and requires a long and constant courtship. It is not to be won by trifling favors but by lavish homage."

My relationship with the law has always made me feel as though I was living a double life—never having adequate time for either. My wife had a
