I look forward to serving as your National President and thank members of the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) for giving me this opportunity to serve our professional organization.
The ASMC has been an important part of the financial management landscape for over 60 years, and it continues to find new ways to meet the needs of our financial community. For instance, this issue of Armed Forces Comptroller presents the many educational and training opportunities available to financial managers to increase their skills and prepare for future challenges--and those challenges clearly are upon us.
This is an exciting time to be a member of the Department of Defense (DoD) and Coast Guard financial management communities. Within the DoD, Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates recently challenged us to change the way we do business and find efficiencies in everything we do. As our nation continues to face hostilities on at least two fronts and to deal with tough economic times, we must look to balance resources among competing priorities.
