How do we decide to save something, and why? Reasons for preserving the environment, for example, can take many forms. They can combine a sense of public relations and corporate responsibility. They can reveal a tacit omission of familial duty and the desire to set things right. They can express the pride and patriotic sense of place and a dedication that a unique environment be shared with future generations.
