Free training to help vets

Attorneys interested in representing a veteran in civil and/or criminal matters can receive free training Nov. 8 either live in San Francisco or at a webcast of the program. The seminar, Veterans Issues: Family Law, Consumer Rights, Job Protection and Diversionary Courts, is sponsored by the State Bar and presented by the Practising Law Institute.

In three hours, attorneys can learn the basics, including:

* Special family law, consumer rights and job protections for veterans;

* Treatment alternatives to incarceration of veterans in California criminal proceedings;

* How veterans courts and other diversionary courts operate in some California counties.

Attendees can earn three hours of continuing legal education credit by attending the entire 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. program or they can attend the civil or criminal segments that best meet their practice needs.
