On
December 11, 1965, Dr. Frederick C. Irion of the University of New
Mexico’s Department of Government passed away. Fred died after an ex-
tensive illness, the existence of which was known only to his family and close
acquaintances.
His death ended a long career of service to his profession and to the
State of New Mexico. His work, at the State’s largest university, paralleled
the development of the Quarterly. Fred attended the founding meeting of
the Western Association and, at the time of his death, was a member of the
Quarterly’s Board of Editors. In between, he served the Quarterly with his
scholarly products -
to mention only two examples: the section on New
Mexico in the &dquo;Bibliography on Western Politics&dquo; (1958) and his resum6s
