Franklin College: founded in 1834, it is one of the oldest colleges in Indiana.

Franklin College is well known for preparing students for lives of excellence, leadership and service. A Franklin College liberal arts education focuses on the growth of the whole person, including the development of a meaningful system of values.

Founded in 1834, it is one of the oldest colleges in Indiana. Only 20 minutes from downtown Indianapolis, students enjoy easy access to the cultural offerings of a large city. In 1842, it became the first college in Indiana to admit women. The campus consists of 74 wooded acres and 26 buildings, many of which are recently renovated or newly constructed. Two buildings, Old Main and Shirk Hall, are listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings.

Class sizes are generally small, and professors take the time to not only know each student's name, but to understand their concerns and answer their questions personally. With more than 40 areas of study, the faculty include 65 full-time professors, of whom 88 percent hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Faculty and staff members often become lifelong friends and mentors who help students shape their course of study, find experiences that qualify them for their first job or graduate program, and design a personalized path toward success.

What sets Franklin College apart from other liberal arts colleges? We know it takes more than just a good course of study to prepare students for their future. We realize the importance of study abroad programs, community service programs, professional development programs, including internships, leadership studies programs and career services.

Study Abroad Programs--Committed to offering students a global perspective, Franklin College offers a wide range of international study and travel opportunities, some of which come with pay. Even first-year students have studied photography in Norway, emigration in Ireland, tropical biology in Belize, art and architecture in Italy, and history in Australia, England, Greece, Scotland and Vietnam during winter term.
