San Francisco Chapter: chapter hosts IRS liaison day, makes scholarship presentations.

On January 26, 2012, San Francisco Chapter hosted its annual IRS Day. TEI Executive Director Timothy McCormally moderated this well-attended event.

Bay Area IRS CTM Territory Manager Don Focht and colleagues from IRS team made presentations to a packed house at San Francisco's City Club. David Stanley from the IRS's Planning, Analysis, Inventory and Research (PAIR) group spoke about what the IRS has found from reviewing 1,900 corporate taxpayer's 2010 Forms UTP (Uncertain Tax Position). Mr. Stanley provided facts and figures on the principal Code sections cited in the 2010 UTP filings (IRC section 41, 162, and 482.) His presentation provided the TEI and IRS participants with a summary analysis of the UTP data and significant trends that appeared in these UTP filings. Mr. Focht discussed the CAP (Compliance Assurance Process) and QEP (Quality Examination Process). Kathleen Arras from IRS Appeals discussed issues relating to the imparted function.

The meeting also afforded the chapter an opportunity to meet one of the recipients of its annual scholarship awards, Minjiao Jiang, a student at Golden Gate University. A short biographical sketch of Ms. Jiang and the other recipient follows.
