Dr. Katherine Fowkes, professor of media and popular culture studies in the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, has had a busy year - and it seems that her hard work has truly paid off. Fowkes was awarded the annual Ruth Ridenhour Scholarly and Professional Achievement Award during the 2011 graduation ceremony.

Fowkes, who came to HPU in 1993 and was promoted to full professor of communication in 2006, has filled her year with teaching, publishing essays, attending conferences and more.

Earlier in the year, she published a scholarly essay in a book anthology titled, "Critical Approaches to the Films of M. Night Shyamalan." She also presented a paper, titled "Reel Rabbits/Real Rabbits?," at the 64th Annual University Film & Video Association Conference in Burlington, Vt, as well as another paper presentation, titled, "Roger Rabbit vs. Harvey: The Ridiculous Trickster Rabbit in Two Hollywood Movies" at the International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts in Orlando, Fla.
