Fortune 1000 firms prefer private cloud.

A survey of 247 Fortune 1000 companies released in May by TheInfoPro found that fewer than 10% are considering the public cloud as a storage option for even their lowest tier of data.

A recent Ponemon/CA Technologies survey found that private cloud providers are more concerned with securing their customers' data than public cloud providers. While only 35% of public cloud providers considered security "important" or "very important" for meeting their organization's IT and data processing goals, 51% of private providers did so.

When asked how confident they are that cloud applications and resources supplied by their organization are secure, 43% of private companies said "confident" or "very confident," while only 29% of public providers said the same.

TheInfoPro's research revealed that, while even private clouds are facing some resistance from Fortune 1000 companies, most said they faced no challenges or obstacles when deploying their private clouds. However, 20% percent said they have experienced some reliability problems, Computerworld reported.
