Under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, you have the right to dispute all incorrect or incomplete information in your credit file, such as an incorrect name, employer, account, or tax history, a lawsuit older than seven years or one you weren't involved in, or a bankruptcy older than ten years. You can use this form to request a reinvestigation of an item you dispute ("reinvestigation" is what the credit reporting agencies call this process).

Once the credit reporting agency receives your letter, it must either reinvestigate the items you dispute or delete them from your credit report within three business days after receiving your dispute.
