FOREWORD
The American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law is pleased to
publish the second edition of the Intellectual Property and Antitrust
Handbook.
The Handbook is intended to serve as an introduction and general
guide to the application of the federal antitrust laws to intellectual
property. It explores in detail the antitrust issues that arise from the
acquisition, licensing, and enforcement of patents, copyrights,
trademarks, and other forms of intellectual property, as well as
developments in patent, copyright, and intellectual property law from the
standpoint of economics and competition policy.
The Section of Antitrust Law is grateful to editors Michael J.
Lawrence, Donald M. Falk and Jay P. Srinivasan and their team of
contributing authors, each of whom dedicated many hours to the
preparation of the Intellectual Property and Antitrust Handbook, under
the leadership of Renata B. Hesse and Hartmut Schneider, co-chairs of
the Intellectual Property Committee of the Section of Antitrust Law as
well as past chairs, Sean P. Gates and Alfred C. Pfeiffer, Jr.
We encourage those who practice in this important and fast-
developing field to make full use of this excellent Handbook.
