Unlike conventional flashlights, the Lightwave 2100 can last thousands of hours.

Lightwave, of Alpharetta, Ga., has designed a flashlight that uses four white-light-emitting diodes, which give it long operational life, said Dale Stonger, the company's general manager.

The system has a printed circuit board to control the flow of voltage from the three AA alkaline batteries used in the flashlight, which means the batteries will last 14 times as long as those powering a regular flashlight, explained Stonger.
