BACKGROUND

Brown Brothers Construction is owned by brothers Albert, Ellis and Michael Brown. The company was established by their grandfather LaVor Brown and his sons Arlen, Dale and Earl, and 2013 marked a milestone for the company as it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Brown Brothers also received national recognition in 2013 as a Top 12 Contractor of the year for its commitment to excellence by Caterpillar and Equipment World magazine.

As the company has grown, its need for expanded financial services led it to investigate new options, and Brown Brothers found that Mountain America Credit Union offered a full complement of business services plus the flexibility and technology they needed.

THE SITUATION

From starting with just one backhoe, Brown Brothers has expanded to become one of the leading contractors for road construction and excavation in southern Utah. The company has built reservoirs, roads and parking lots, and they actually built the segment of Highway 24 that runs through their hometown of Loa, Utah.

Brown Brothers had been with a local financial institution for several years, but when the economic crisis of 2008 hit, it became apparent that a change was necessary.

Being located in a town with just 600 residents also presented some problems, as the number of local banks was limited. "We weren't happy with our financial institution," says Brown Brothers' office manager, Diane Goodwin. "The owners decided that it would be a good idea to look for another financial firm that could increase our access to the services we wanted."
