On November 17, SPC Katherine Jashinski of the Texas Army National Guard became the first woman in the military to make a public declaration of her resistance to the Iraq War. She enlisted three years ago, and in 2004 she requested conscientious objector status.

The Army has denied her request for CO status, but she is appealing that decision. In the meantime, she has refused deployment...
