Businesses and law firms are increasingly taking steps to improve their records management processes and e-discovery preparedness, according to a recent survey by Oce Business Services.

The survey, "The Discovery-Ready Enterprise III: Taking Steps to Be Proactively Prepared," polled 124 corporate legal professionals. The findings include:

* The top-two actions organzations are taking toward preparing for e-discovery are (1) implementing a discovery readiness assessment analysis (26%) and (2) creating an internal e-discovery team (26%).

* Companies are recognizing that records management is a key element of being prepared for discovery. In Oce's 2008 discovery-ready enterprise survey, 35% of in-house counsels surveyed indicated their organization planned to implement a records management program within the next year.
