FEI private companies talk policy with congress.

March 23-24, the Committee on Private Company Policy (CPC-P) met in Washington, D.C., as part of FEI's 5th Annual Private Company Fly-in. This year, 12 private company chief financial officers visited with 34 congressional offices over two days. Included in the visits were top ranking members of the House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee, as well as the senior staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation and the House and Senate Small Business Committees.

The fly-in provided the opportunity for FEI members to meet face-to-face with many legislators such as Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.), Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.), and former minority whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.). During the two days, some of the attendees even had the opportunity to visit the Senate Gallery and watch some of the debate on health care.

At the fly-in, senior executives from private companies were able to discuss important tax policy issues, such as preserving last-in, first-out (LIFO) accounting, a permanent estate tax fix and encouraging more competitive corporate and individual tax rates. The FEI group also discussed regulatory issues related to the financial overhaul legislation currently before Congress.
