On Dec. 7, the Nashville Chapter of Financial Executives International presented a program for members on extensible Business Reporting Language, by John Hyland, a senior vice president of RR Donnelley. & Sons. Co. XBRL is an interactive data reporting standard required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

These requirements started to be phased in during 2009 for large accelerated filers with $5 billion or more in revenues, and will add companies, with detailed tagging by 2012, when it's expected to include more than 8,200 companies.

The requirements are creating much uncertainty and anxiety in the market. Because of the rapidly changing requirements, echoed by the EDGAR Filing Manual already on Version 15, it's causing an increase in outsourcing to external reporting groups.
