GREENSBORO -- Opponents of the proposed $300 million FedEx Corp. package-sorting hub at Piedmont Triad International Airport are taking to the airwaves to counter TV commercials by the project's backers. With financial backing from businesses and individuals, the Forward Guilford economic development group is running spots touting job creation and other economic benefits of the hub, scheduled to open in 2005 if it wins federal regulatory approval. Opponents' commercials play up fears that nighttime flights of FedEx jets would disturb residents in western Guilford County.
