A new project to promote intergovernmental cooperation between states and tribes by researching, assessing and distributing information on how devolution will affect Indian tribes and state-tribal relationship was recently begun by NCSL and the National Congress of American Indians.

State legislators from across the nation in September took part in a pilot program to teach students the value of public service in an initiative started by NCSL called "Legislators Back-to-School Day." Next year all states are invited to participate by sending legislators into classrooms to teach about negotiation and compromise.
