F. Basic Allowance for Housing Effect on Child Support
1. Generally
In its definition of gross income, the Form 14 Instructions to Line 1 include “military allowances for subsistence and quarters.” One of the primary benefits that active duty servicemembers receive is a BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing). Servicemembers not on active duty orders do not receive BAH. If a servicemember receives this form of compensation, it appears in the far left-hand column of the LES (Leave and Earnings Statement) as “BAH.” If a servicemember has a family and the family is accompanying them at a particular duty station, they are eligible to reside in military housing located on a military installation.
