An SEC rule proposal expected to be approved would require public companies for the first time to show total annual compensation for top officers and executives.

If approved, the rule would require companies to disclose the pay, severance, bonus, stock and option grants and retirement packages of the chief executive, the chief financial officer, the next three highest-paid executives, and up to three other employees with equal compensation.
