9 Flag Day Celebration
The only event in Anchorage honoring the designer of the Alaska flag, 13-year-old Benny Benson, and celebrating the day it was first flown in 1927. Barbecue, games and music at 4600 Abbott Road from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Contact Alaska Children's Services at 346-2101.
11-18 Great Alaska Summer Shootout
The seven-day event will include six games guaranteed, eight games maximum, and will include pool play, tournament play, individual and team competitions. At least 28 teams will compete. Games start at various times at the University of Alaska Anchorage Sports Center, O'Malley Gardens and area high schools. Sponsored by UAA and Ambassador Sports International. Call 349-4960.
