European Chapter meets, presents award.

Seventy tax executives from TEI's TEI EMEA Chapter met in Munich for two days in October. The technical program for the meeting featured presentations by tax professionals from Ernst & Young, which sponsored the meeting. Topics covered during the meeting included cross border audits, German tax developments, the VAT package, Russian VAT, and the Obama Administration's tax proposals, which prompted many lively discussions. Even though consideration of the Obama proposals has been postponed until 2010, the chapter formed a working group to focus on the proposals.

On behalf of the Institute, Christer Bell, president of the EMEA Chapter, presented Johann Muller of the chapter with the Institute's Meritorious Committee Service Award in recognition of his outstanding service as chair of TEI's European Direct Tax Committee.
