Even though the editor of the JACS received only five out of seven volumes of the Heidelberger Sudasiengesprache, he, I thought it might be worthwhile for this review to look at all the volumes and bring the entire series, as far as I could trace it, to the attention of the readers of our journal.

The first Heidelberger Sudasiengesprach was held in April 1990; it was published in the Institute's Beitrage in the same year. Even though the word "Indien" does not appear in title, the entire volume is devoted to Bharat. From volume two to volume five the name of the country or the geographical area that was the object of each Gesprach precedes the general title given to volume one: no. 2 Pakistan (held 1991, published 1992)...
