Error on Michigan.

I always read The Progressive cover to cover, and I just finished the December/January Comment, "A Victory for the 99 Percent," and wanted to point out a pretty major mistake. It says: "Historic ballot initiatives giving gay and lesbian couples the right to marry passed in Maine, Maryland, and Michigan."

However, I live in Michigan, and we had no ballot proposals that related to gays or lesbians this year. Further, of the six ballot proposals that we did have, none passed.

In fact, in the last election, the people of Michigan actually passed a ballot proposal for an amendment to the state constitution that defined marriage as only being between one man and one woman. I voted against that proposal, and would have voted for the proposal mentioned in this article if it had, in fact, been on the ballot.

Finally, the failure by a wide margin of a ballot initiative to amend the state constitution to protect collective bargaining rights for all...
