'Jam-dbyangs-bzhad-pa (1648-1721) was born in the eastern Tibetan province of A-mdo. He studied at the great Gelugpa (dge-lugs-pa) monastic universities of Central Tibet, traveled and lectured widely, and was entitled by Kangxi, the Manchu emperor. The text presented here, a general commentary to the Prasannapada, itself a commentary to the Mula-Madhyamaka-karikas by Nagarjuna, was composed during his stay at Bdeldan-nyi-'od-'khyil in the region of Ri-bo-dge-'phel from 1680 to 1700. For Gelugpa it is a definitive presentation of Prasangika Madhyamika in the tradition of Nagarjuna and Candrakirti. No Tibetan text is presented, but it is readily available elsewhere. The Tashikhyil (bkra shis 'khyil) edition has been used.
