Eric Solomon honored during midyear conference.

Former Assistant Treasury Secretary Eric Solomon was the recipient of TEI's Distinguished Service Award during the Institute's Midyear Conference in April. TEI President Vincent Alicandri presented the award at the Tuesday night banquet. Describing Mr. Solomon's 10-year career at the Treasury's Office of Tax Policy, Mr. Alicandri noted that the former Assistant Secretary found himself briefly out of a job when President Bush assumed office in 2001. "It only took a few days, however," Mr. Alicandri stated, "for the new Administration to realize that it needed someone of Eric's intelligence, integrity, experience, and commitment, and he rejoined Treasury without ever unpacking the boxes."

The dry recitation of Mr. Solomon's government career does not adequately explain why we are honoring him tonight, TEI's president said. "During his government service, Eric was a true believer not only in sound policy, administrable rules, and taxpayer service, but in collaborative tax administration. He repeatedly reached out to the tax community--and to TEI, in particular--for advice and help on a wide variety of projects.
