Environmental Education
Local Grants available
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) has announced $2.7 million in funding is
available for the FY2016 Environmental Education
(EE) Grants Program. The EPA said in a release
that grants will support local environmental
education projects that promote environmental
awareness and stewardship and help provide
people with the skills to take responsible actions to
protect the environment.
The EE Grants Program provides nancial
support for projects that design, demonstrate and/
or disseminate environmental education practices,
methods or techniques, EPA said.
Up to three grants from each of the agency’s
10 regional ofces are expected to be awarded for
a total of approximately 30 grants nationwide,
said EPA, to entities such as state education or
environmental agencies, colleges or universities,
nonprot organizations or tribal education
agencies, including schools and community colleges
controlled by Indian tribes, bands or nations.
Applicant organizations must be located in the
United States or its territories, and the majority
of the educational activities must take place in
the United States, Canada, Mexico or the U.S.
territories, the agency said.
Since 1992, EPA said it has distributed between
$2 million and $3.5 million in grant funding per
year through the EE Grants Program, supporting
more than 3,600 grants. In FY2016, award
amounts for grants will be up to $91,000.
