More than 4 million businesses received the U.S. Commerce Department's 2007 Economic Census last month. The Commerce Department administers the census every 5 years to develop a portrait of American business, on both national and local levels.

Responses to the questionnaire are required by law and must be returned by Feb. 12 (the information is kept confidential). Forms also may be completed online.
