EMEA Chapter presents scholarship.

As part of TEI's Social Responsibility program, the EMEA Chapter has presented a scholarship to a worth), student at Leiden University in Leiden, Netherlands. The presentation was made by Chapter Treasurer Rudolf van Ooijen in connection with graduation ceremonies at Leiden for students receiving the Advanced LL.M. degree in International Tax Law. This event is the culmination of twelve months of intensive study of international taxation, under the direction of Professor Kees van Raad. The scope and the depth of this unique program mean that its graduates--this year from 24 different countries--are among the most sought after young tax talents in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

The graduation ceremonies were held on August 26, 2010, in the Senaatskamer of the historic Academy Building, a former convent in the center of Leiden. The Graduation Lecture and awards ceremony then followed in the Academy Building's Great Hall. The Great Hall was filled to capacity by the 47 graduates of the Class of 2010, the newly arrived students of the Class of 2011, distinguished faculty, international tax specialists, and many proud family members and guests. The Graduation Lecture was delivered by Marx, Bennett, Head of the Tax Treaty, Transfer Pricing & Financial Transactions Division at the OECD's Centre for Tax Policy & Administration in Paris. Her topic was "The relief of double taxation under the OECD Model Convention--time to revisit (and to review)?" Comments on the lecture were offered by international tax lawyer Maarten Ellis.

Following the technical presentation, Rudolf van Ooijen was called upon to present the 2010 TEI EMEA Chapter Award to a member of the Class of 2010, who was selected by the program's academic leadership on the basis of exceptional performance and achievement.
