EDITORIAL
NOTES
This first issue of Volume
39
in the second year
of
the new millennium is particularly
important for a number of reasons. Changes have been adopted in the format of the
Review,
the Editorial Board, the student editorial staff, and editorial policies that readers should be
aware
of.
In addition, this issue contains important substantive articles and material. My edi-
torial notes are thus a bit longer than usual. I hope that readers will bear with me.
FORMAT
CHANGES
NAME CHANGE
The
Review
has long been known as the
Family and Conciliation
Courts
Review.
This
name was in keeping with the name of its sponsoring organization, the Association
of
Family
and Conciliation Courts (AFCC). As you may know already, AFCC has changed its name
from “Association of Family and Conciliation Courts” to “AFCC, an association of family,
court and community professionals.” Dropping the word
conciliation
from AFCC’s name
required that the
Review
change its name
too.
After much deliberation and many suggestions, we have decided to change the name of
the
Review
to
Family
Court
Review.
To ensure that the interdisciplinary emphasis of the
Review
continues to be a central part of its identity, a subtitle follows the formal title-An
Interdisciplinary Journal.
The resulting name is thus as appears on the cover.
SIZE
AND COVER CHANGE
In consultation with Sage, we also decided to increase the size of the
Review
from
8
f.:
inches by
5
f/:
inches to
10
inches by
7
inches. The larger size is more in keeping with other
journals. It will enable more articles to be published, and the articles will be easier to read.
Because of the name change and the increased size, the
Review’s
cover has been rede-
signed. The previous cover design
was
generally well received. We tried to preserve as much
of it as possible in the larger format.
EDITORIAL BOARD REORGANIZATION
Up
until this year, editorial board members were appointed by the editor and served no
fixed terms. This arrangement has been reexamined in light of the ongoing reorganization of
the AFCC board.
The editorial board, Sage, AFCC, the student staff, and
I
extensively discussed how the
editorial board should be organized to balance the need
for
continuity in membership with
the need to regularly have an infusion of new expertise and energy. Sage was able to @ro-
vide us with input about how other journals organized their boards. The result was the fol-
lowing plan:
