EDITORIAL INTRODUCTION

I am delighted to introduce the fourth issue, closing volume 40 of Conflict Resolution Quarterly.

It features four Research Articles, one Review Article, one Practice Insights, a Book Review,

and a Feature Article with a Commentary.

The articles published in the current issue capture social conflict in different parts of the

world and focus on various third-party interventions as well as on social justice, restorative

validity, healing, and reconciliation following war experiences.

The first research article by Giovanni P. Dazzo,Carmencita Cúmez,Erica Henderson,and

Fredy Peccerelli portrays an ethnographic case study in Guatemala, using an innovative

research process and exploring the potential of restorative validity and healing qualities of

inquiry.

Daniel Rothbart,Karina Korostelina, and Beltina Gjeloshi present in the second research arti-

cle, the findings of an oral history project revealing the testimony of 116 Sudanese from three

regions—Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, and the Blue Nile state—focusing on their experiences

of war and their vision of a just future for Sudan.

The next research article by Lily J. Jiang,Amy G. Applegate,Claire S. Tomlinson,Fernanda

S. Ross,Connie Beck,Jeannie Adams, and Amy Holtzworth-Munroe portrays the findings and

insights from a study comparing the use of different third-party intervention methods with sep-

arating parents reporting partner violence.

Valerie Helsen presents in the fourth research article a study designed to develop and psy-

chometrically evaluate a measure to assess attitude toward mediation.

The review article by David Tan explores the contributions and potential impediments of

the UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (the

Singapore Convention on Mediation or SCM) to ADR.

Bakr Abdel Fattah Al Serhan,Wesam Faisal Al Shawawreh, and Pauline Collins explicate in

their practice insights article the development of mediation in Jordan, focusing on the consider-

ations the parties ought to take into account upon selecting a mediator in civil and commercial

disputes.

Wendrila Biswas and Debarun Chakraborty present a review of a timely book by Laurie

R. Blank (2023) entitled International Conflict and Security Law published by Edward Elgar

Series on Principles of International Law.

The issue concludes with a feature article by Mary Rowe, who eloquently and engagingly

recounts her journey to the role of an ombudsman/woman at MIT. Howard Gadlin's commen-

tary reflects upon the feature article, notably on the development of organizational ombuds-

man/woman.

I invite you to read CRQ 40:4 issue, wishing you an enriching and interesting reading expe-

rience. I also continue the call to submit your work on related topics to Conflict Resolution

Quarterly, either to Special Issues or to our regular issues.
