Editorial Board Member: Alléna W. McCain

Alléna W. McCain is a litigator based

out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her

practice spans many areas of litigation,

including medical malpractice, legal malpractice,

personal injury, commercial disputes, and civil

rights. “My favorite thing about practicing law,

especially in litigation, is crafting a story to

convey to the fact nder. The discovery process

reveals puzzle pieces and plot points, and our

clients trust us to nd ways to strategically place

those pieces into a complete and persuasive

story that supports our legal theory.” For Alléna,

every case brings an opportunity to learn more

about the law, the parties, and the subject matter

in dispute. She particularly enjoys working with

experts and learning more about the intersection of law and

other industries.

Alléna fell in love with trial work and the storytelling

process through participation in undergraduate trial competi-

tions hosted by the American Mock Trial Association, which

inspired her to pursue a legal career after earning her bach-

elor’s degree in business administration in nance from the

University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). At Louisiana State

University’s (LSU’s) Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Alléna con-

tinued to develop her advocacy skills through classroom study

and participation in the Law Center’s robust trial advocacy

workshops and competitions. In 2019, she represented LSU

on the championship-winning team at the Costello National

Criminal Tr ial Competition in Fairfax, Virginia. Upon her

graduation, she was inducted into the Order of the Barristers,

a national organization recognizing excellence in the art of

courtroom advocacy. Alléna was also a member of the Louisi-

ana Law Review, serving as an issue editor for volume 79.

When her practice permits, Alléna continues to volunteer

as a coach and judge for the ULM mock trial teams and the

LSU Law Center’s advocacy programs. She also serves as the

vice-chair of the Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Mock Trial

Committee, which hosts an annual regional tournament for

high school students. “It is so rewarding to bring dozens of

practicing attorneys and judges into our district courthouse to

judge and mentor our local students. Not only are we laying a

foundation for future attorneys, but we also have the privilege

of instilling an appreciation and understanding of our justice

system. We are perennially amazed by the skill and preparation

the students demonstrate, and I always end the tournament

weekend with a renewed commitment to diligent preparation

and strategic creativity in my own work.”

Alléna has been a member of the ABA Tort Trial and Insur-

ance Practice Section (TIPS) since the start of her career but

became involved in committees and leadership

in 2024. In addition to her service on the edi-

torial board of The Brief, she is a member of the

Medicine and Law Committee and the Com-

mittee on Outreach to Young Lawyers. Meade

Mitchell, the Vice-Chair of TIPS, encouraged

Alléna to dive into TIPS committees. TIPS

involvement has encouraged her to expand her

network, knowledge, and skills.

Alléna believes strongly that the legal profes-

sion is only as noble as those who maintain it.

She believes it is possible—essential, even—to

zealously represent clients while maintaining a

professional and practical approach to conict

resolution and litigation strategy. Her dedication

to clients and commitment to professionalism have earned

her designation as a Rising Star in Personal Injury Defense by

Louisiana Super Lawyers in 2024 and 2025.

Alléna grew up in a rural community in north Louisiana.

The pragmatic, can-do attitude of her farming family instilled

a sense of tenacity and fairness that continues to inspire her

practice. She credits her grandmother with instilling in her

a sense of curiosity, logic, and competition from a young

age—while her father and brothers worked on the farm,

Alléna spent many summer days playing logic games, working

jigsaw puzzles, reading, and playing board games with her

grandmother.

Throughout her childhood, Alléna developed a love of

performing through her involvement in community theater

and dance recitals. These experiences paved the way for her to

excel in courtroom advocacy despite her introverted nature.

“I love to perform, and I love the spotlight, but I generally

dislike social environments. Therefore, I treat the courtroom

as a stage, much like I learned as a mock trial student. Every

person in a courtroom or conference room has a role to play,

and I play my part to the best of my ability in each situation.”

This approach allows Alléna to remain professional and com-

municate with poise, particularly when working with dicult

people and sensitive issues.

Outside of the oce, Alléna enjoys cross-stitching, reading,

baking, and listening to podcasts. She is married to her high

school sweetheart, Connor, and they have a spoiled fur baby,

Veto.Together, they enjoy traveling, live music, comedy,

theater, and hosting friends for weekly Survivor watch parties.
