The OAS declares 2011 the Inter-American Year of Culture in recognition of the role that culture plays as creator of wealth and as a weapon against inequality and poverty.

Since the beginning of history, the symbolic world of culture and art has brought purpose to people's lives and has been a source of pleasure and spiritual refinement. The many different forms of artistic and cultural expression have undeniably bolstered internal social cohesion and communication, exchange and understanding between people. Only recently has the focus shifted to the data, numbers, and indicators of the contribution of culture to the Gross Domestic Product. In this edition we will explore the added value of culture in the economy of one country, Argentina.
