From January 1, 2006, through December 31, 2006, the Editorial Office received 289 new manuscript submissions. Table 1 below shows the time between submission and the journal's first response, whether to reject, ask for a revision, or accept a manuscript, for the 289 manuscripts submitted during 2006. More than 99% of the submitting authors received a response within six months. (Remarkably, only two papers received a first response after more than six months.)

Table 2 shows the number of submissions and accepted manuscripts from 1997 to 2006. After an initial decline in 1997, mostly due to the change in editorship, submissions and acceptances have been steady.

Table 3 shows the distribution of published papers in 2005 and 2006 by subject, using JEL codes. Considerable fluctuation appears in the number of publications in each category over the two-year period considered.

The Board of Trustees also named Christopher Bollinger new Co-Editor for a term beginning January 1, 2007. He replaces Julie Hotchkiss who has become editor-in--chief of the EconSouth, one of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank's main publications.

On behalf of my fellow Co-Editors, I thank the Associate Editors and our many referees for their help in our editorial tasks. We rely heavily on them for evaluation of manuscripts. I also thank Amanda Kramer, the Journal editorial assistant, for her outstanding job of handling till the different tasks and demands of the journal. List but not least, I thank...
