EDITOR'S NOTES
As the calendar turned to 2020, I began my sixth and final year as editor of Nonprofit Manage-
ment & Leadership (NML). To be sure, 2019 was a momentous yearour first without the sup-
port of Case Western Reserve University. Change has not slowed, with Wiley replacing its NML
journal publishing manager, managing editor, and production editor in recent months. The
journal received 166 new submissions in 2019, down slightly from recent years. However, the
quality of submitted work is higher: the journal published 37 articles and research notes in
2019, a big jump from the previous high of 31 in 2018. The quality is also reflected in the jump
in two-year impact factor, which was announced at 1.92 this past summer.
No editorial board members finished their terms at the end of 2019, but we added four new
members to expand the size and reach of the board. After finishing a six-year term with the edi-
torial board in 2018, Ram Cnaan (University of Pennsylvania) rejoins to bring his essential
voice back to the journal. Three others are brand new to the board: Mirae Kim (Georgia State
University), George Mitchell (Baruch College), and Elizabeth Searing (SUNY Albany). I am
excited to have these new members aboard, and I believe that the current editorial board is a
good representation of the scholars of the field.
Manuscript reviewers are the lifeblood of the journal. Editors of other journals frequently
lament their difficulty in finding reviewers for their manuscripts, but I have not had this prob-
lem. I have found that most in our field are enthusiastic about reviewing, and those sitting just
outside the field are often willing as well. My general policy has been to approach reviewers no
more than once a year, although some review more often to continue their critiques of revised
manuscripts, and editorial board members will conduct three to four reviews each year. The
result is that every manuscript gets careful consideration, and most get thorough critiques from
a thoughtful panel of peers. Below is the list of 373 individuals who provided peer reviews of
manuscripts for Nonprofit Management & Leadership in 2019. Thank you, all!
