EDITOR'SNOTE

There are two items that merit special attention in the June 2018 issue of the Journal of

Risk and Insurance. The first is the Symposium on Choices Under Uncertainty: Beyond Risk

Aversion that honors the memory of our recently-departed colleague Harris

Schlesinger. The guest editors of the Symposium are Christian Gollier and Louis

Eeckhoudt who collaborated with Harris for many years. Interestingly, two of the six

articles included in the Symposium have Harris Schlesinger as a coauthor, which is

further evidence of his continued contributions to the Risk Management and

Insurance discipline. Those who knew Harris miss him as a true scholar, a generous

mentor, and a loyal friend.

After his passing, a decision was made jointly by the Editors of the Geneva Risk and

Insurance Review and the Journal of Risk and Insurance to recognize the importance of

Harris Schlesinger’s contributions to the risk and insurance communities in North

America, Europe and Asia. This Symposium in the JRI and the March 2018 Special

Issue of the GRIR are the result of that collaboration.

The second matter of interest is that our colleague Richard Butler has stepped down as

a Co-Editor of the Journal. Those who had the good fortune of interacting with Dick

always appreciated his extraordinary scholarship and deep dedication to the

profession tempered by an intense professional curiosity and unfailing good humor.

We will miss Dick at the JRI, but we wish him the best of success in his post-retirement

endeavors.

Joining our list of Co-Editors will be Yijia Lin, who is the N. Z. Snell Life Insurance

Professor at the University of Nebraska. Yijia is an actuary by training who has served

as an Associate Editor at the Journal for many years. Her dedication and judgement

will be valuable assets to the Journal.
