Editor’s Corner: The Epitome of Colleague—
Clyde D. Stoltenberg—September 14, 1947–
July 24, 2013

The definition of a colleague is difficult to pin down. A colleague encour-
ages us to do our best work. A colleague is someone who listens and helps
his peers. A colleague collaborates, supports, and recognizes others as
equals. “A good definition is almost impossible, but you know one when
you see one. The connection is almost immediate. You know it’s going to
be a good day because you will be seeing that colleague.”1Clyde
Stoltenberg was the embodiment of these collegial virtues.
Clyde graduated with a degree in the classics from the University of
Iowa, earned a graduate degree from the Columbia University School of
International Affairs, and completed a law degree from Harvard Law
School. After practicing law in Illinois, Clyde taught as a professor of
business law for almost twenty years at the University of Kansas. Clyde also
taught at the University of Texas at San Antonio, California State
University,L ong Beach, and in locations abroad. In 2008, Clyde joined the
faculty at Wichita State University as the W. Frank Barton Distinguished
Chair and Associate Director of the Center for International Business
Advancement. Clyde’s specialty was international business, publishing not
