Editor
Randall S. Abate is the associate dean for ac ademic aairs and a professor
of law at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law in
Orlando, Florida. Professor Abate teaches climate change law and justice,
international environmental law, climate change a nd indigenous peoples,
climate change impacts on ocean and coastal law, constitutional law I and
II, and animal law. Professor Abate joined the Florida A&M College of Law
faculty in 2009 with 15 years of full-time law teaching experience at Ver-
mont Law School, Widener Law School-Harrisburg, Rutgers School of Law-
Camden, Florida Coa stal School of Law, and Florida State College of Law.
He has taught international and comparative environmental law courses in
Argentina, Ca nada, the Cayma n Islands, China, India, Kenya, Kyrgyzsta n,
Spain, Ukraine, and the United K ingdom. Professor Abate was awarded a
Sustainability Institute faculty fellowship from Florida A& M University for
the 2016/2017 academic year.
Professor Abate has published and presented widely on environmental law
topics, with a recent emphasis on climate change law and justice. His articles
on climate change law and justice have appeared in the Stanford Environ-
mental Law Journal, Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, Connecticut
Law Review, Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum, Washington Law
Review, William and Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review, Tulane
Journal of International and Comparative Law, Seattle Journal of Environmen-
tal Law, Ottawa Law Review, Tulane Environmental Law Journal, Fordham
Environmental Law Review, and UCLA Journal of International Law and
Foreign Aairs. He is the editor of W C A L  L  F

2013). Early in his career, Professor Abate ha ndled environmental law mat-
ters at two law rms in Manhattan. He holds a B.A . from the University of

Rochester and a J.D. and M.S.E.L. (environmental law and policy) from
Vermont Law School.
Contributing Authors
Nadia B. Ahmad is an assistant professor of law at Barry University Dwayne
O. Andreas School of Law. Previously, she wa s the visiting assistant profes-
sor of environmental law at Pace Law School. Professor Ahmad’s research
explores the intersections of energ y law and the environment and draws on
international investment law, energy justice, corporate best practices, a nd
corporate social responsibility. Alongside her scholarship on energy law and
the environment, Professor Ahmad also writes about women’s legal rights in
South Asia and the Middle East. Prior to joining Pace Law School, Professor
Ahmad worked for a multinat ional oil and gas company. Additiona lly, as a
legal fellow with the Colorado -based nongovernmental organization Sus-
tainable Development Strategies Group, Professor A hmad analy zed foreign
mining and natura l resource development laws for compliance with sustain-
able development principles. Pre viously, Professor Ahmad was a n attorney
in private practice in Florida and handled civil litigation, real property, land
use and zoning, corporate, and employment law matters. Professor Ahmad
earned a B.A. in comparative l iterature with language emphases in L atin
and English f rom the University of California at Berkeley with high hon-
ors, a J.D. from the University of Florida L evin College of L aw, and an
LL.M. in environmental and natural resources law from the University of
Denver Sturm College of Law. She is a member of the state ba rs of Florida
and Colorado. She has delivered presentations at Columbia Law School,
Harvard Law School, Yale University, University of Georgia School of L aw,
University of Washington School of Law, A lbany Law School, A merican
University in Cairo, Texas A&M School of Law, and George Washington
University Law School.
Naysa Ahuja is a senior a ssociate at Enviro Legal Defence Firm, the rst
environmental law rm in India. She works as a consu ltant on the inter-
face of natural resource mana gement, forest and landscape governance,
community access rights, gender justice, and environmental rule of law
in India, the United States, a nd other Asian countries. She is interested in
studying the implications of international climate change discussion on
resilience-building actions and nancing at the national and village levels.
