EDI, Oracle launch predictive coding study.

The Electronic Discovery Institute (EDI) has announced it is ready to proceed with an academic study of computer-assisted document review in partnership with Oracle. EDI is the administrator for the study, and Professor Peter Glynn and Consulting Professor GeM Infanger of Stanford University are the chief scientists. Law.com reported that Patrick Oot, general counsel and cofounder of EDI, announced the launch in an e-marl in August.

"Our objective for this study is to build upon early research completed by The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)'s Text Retrieval Conference (TREC) Legal Track and EDI's original document review study," wrote Oot. "Our mission is to evaluate multiple human and technology-assisted analysis systems for responding to discovery in litigation. Specifically, we will investigate how different systems perform at identifying responsive, highly responsive, and privileged data.
