Alaska's economy received more than $546 million in wages and income, and more than 16,400 jobs were generated by the cruise industry in 2002, according to an annual study by Business Research and Economic Advisors. Commissioned by the International Council of Cruise Lines, the study details cruise lines' economic contributions and examines the extensive links that cruise lines have with major U.S. industries.

An estimated 2.6 million cruise passengers visited the state in 2002 and spent just under $100 per visit, primarily on shore excursions, food and beverages, general retail, and pre- and post-cruise stays...
