Dubro is preposterous.

My God, where did you come up with that doozy Mec Dubro ("The Myth of the Efficient Car," May issue)? "Cars don't move people, cars move cars," he said. Now how did he come up with that brilliant observation? Only a veteran Washington, D.C., resident, the home of those other doozies we vote for, could conjure that up.

The "essence of the problem," according to Dubro, is that we don't live close enough to our jobs in self-contained neighborhoods. Hold it, Dubro, we still have to breathe. To complete the equation, we have to walk very slowly, but even that generates C[O.sub.2]. How are food and other necessities getting to these neighborhoods...
